The members said "acts of violence or terrorism" will not be able to impede the road to peace and democracy to Iraq. The UN Security Council will hold a meeting on Thursday (12/6) to discuss the situation in Iraq, where Islamist militants have seized several towns which is a heavy blow to the Shiite-led government.

Before the meeting, the Council issued a statement strongly condemning the militants from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) over their attacks on Mosul. The members said "acts of violence or terrorism" will not be able to impede the road to peace and democracy to Iraq.

Meanwhile, the United States is considering how to help Iraq against militants who now control the increase in Mosul, Tikrit and Fallujah.

U.S. officials, who requested anonymity, said one of the various options being considered is whether to send unmanned aircraft to Iraq.

Deputy White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said the U.S. will continue to give Iraq "all reasonable assistance" to combat the branch of al-Qaida ISIL, but did not give details of certain assistance.
